Smart applications for rubber granulate

There are many smart ways of using rubber granulate. Three of the most common examples are as a damping filler material in artificial grass pitches, as a cushioning underlay on riding tracks or as bullet collectors on shooting ranges.

Filler in artificial turf pitches

Rubber granulate, or SBR as it is also called when used in artificial turf, is the commonest and most cost-effective filler material to give artificial turf its damping properties. We supply rubber granulate for new artificial turf sites but also for refilling in connection with ongoing maintenance of the artificial turf. Too little rubber granulate on the site makes the substrate hard and increases the risk of damage.

Underlay in riding tracks

Rubber granulate is also used as a top layer on sand on riding tracks to create more resistance and thereby more effective training for the horse. The soft underlay also reduces the load, which gives gentler training and a reduced risk of injury to horses training on riding tracks with rubber granulate.

Shooting ranges/bullet trap

On shooting ranges, rubber granulate is used as a bullet trap, both outdoors and indoors. The granulate absorbs the energy of the bullet without fragmenting the lead bullet and without developing heat which melts the lead. It also reduces the sound level on impact.

Rubber asphalt

In asphalt, rubber granulate is an important bonding material in the oil mixture which binds the stone. It is the rubber granulate which makes the asphalt elastic, reduces the risk of cracking as a result of frost and makes it possible to lay a thinner layer of asphalt. Rubber granulate also makes the asphalt blacker, which means that it absorbs heat and that ice on the road surface thaws faster.
